Good Evening Cole Harbour District High School Families.

Hard to believe that the first week of October is now complete.

Scented Products

We are asking that you speak with your student/s about not bringing scented products to school.  We have members of our school community who have reactions to scented products which can negatively affect their breathing and health.  Thus, we are asking that scented products not be brought to school.

Cell Phone Directive

Once again, I want to thank you and your student/s for supporting the Provincial Cell Phone Directive.  As mentioned in last week’s message we are seeing less distractions and disruptions in our classrooms and more student engagement.  Great Job Cavs!

Sports

Our Cavalier Boys baseball team played their playoff games this week.  The team made it to the championship game and played Islandview.  It was an exciting game that went back and forth with several lead changes.  In the end our Cavaliers were defeated 9 - 8 but their future looks very bright as the team consists of grade 10 and 11 players.  I want to give a big shout out and thank you to the players for your hard work and dedication.  I also want to say a big thank you to the coaches for supporting our students and allowing them the opportunity to participate in school sports.  Your dedication as community volunteers is much appreciated and it has made a difference for our students.  Great Job Cavs!

Girls Volleyball

Our Cavalier Girls volleyball team is off to a great start in their season.  This week they defeated Woodlawn High School 3 sets to zero.  Great Job Cavs!

Soccer

Our Cavalier Boys soccer team played this week against Eastern Shore District High School.  It was an exciting game that was decided on a late penalty shot.  The Cavs won 2 - 1 on the last shot of the game.  Great Job Cavs!

Judo

Judo is back this year and starts on Monday.

Every Monday after school in our gym students will have an opportunity to train with Mr. Kaye.  They will learn the Japanese martial art and Olympic sport in an inclusive and welcoming environment.  They will safely learn a wide variety of skills while getting a good workout. Whether it's for self-defence, fitness or simply wanting to learn new skills, students can come out and give it a try.

Cafeteria Service

We still do not have a food provider for our cafeteria.  I hope to receive some more information in the next week.

AARAO

On Monday, October 7, from 9:30 am - 10:30 pm members from the Atlantic Association of Registrars and Admissions Officers (AARAO) will be at our school to provide students with information about post secondary education opportunities.

Have an enjoyable and safe weekend.

Mr. Reddick

Good Evening Cole Harbour District High School Families.

The first month of our school year is now complete and the first week of fall for us was a busy one.  During this week our Cavalier Girls’ volleyball and soccer teams played games as well as our Cavalier Boys’ soccer, golf & baseball teams.  The badminton club had a great turn out on Wednesday as students and staff took part after school playing each other.  Our student council has now started their weekly meetings and has begun planning many great activities for the students of our school that will have an impact on school spirit.  As part of our emergency measures planning we held a successful Hold & Secure drill.  The week and indeed month have been not just busy but very positive.  Once again, I want to thank you and your student/s for supporting the provincial cell phone directive.  We continue to see increased engagement and less disruptions in student learning.

National Day for Truth & Reconciliation

There will be no school on Monday as it is National Day for Truth & Reconciliation.

Each year, September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.  The day honours the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities.  It is a day for reflection and to recognize the path of reconciliation we walk together.

Community Support

I want to thank members of the Hillside Church for supporting our school.  Thanks to them, our students are being provided with free lunches on Mondays.  Their support for our school community is much appreciated.

Human vs Zombies

Next Thursday, October 3 from 6:30 to 9pm, the Cavs Improv will be hosting their first HVZ fundraiser of the year.  This is a great opportunity for students to come out and have some fun.  Big Cavalier thank you to David Zinck for organizing the event.

Hope everyone has a great weekend and that you have time to relax and enjoy yourselves.
